Stephanie Blackford graduated from the Costume Design Program at Dalhousie University in 1987. In January of 1988 she formed Blackford Design which represents the collection of her wearable art clothing. Stephanie has dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her craft, as a full-time artisan whose creations have graced many festivals, markets and events across Canada, including the Filberg Festival. Stephanie's studio is located in Qualicum Beach, where with hands and heart, she makes her wearable art creations.
The Wearable Art Clothing Creations of Blackford Design are made by Artist Stephanie Blackford in her Qualicum Beach studio with her hands only. Stephanie uses several techniques including embroidery, felting, printing, knitting and weaving. The textiles she uses include bamboo, cotton, hemp, wool and linen. Her equipment includes embroidery and sewing machines, felting embellisher, fabric cutter, spinning wheels, drum carder and a knitters loom. Stephanie’s ongoing collection includes jackets, coats, shirts, pants and cowls.
