In the world of fashion, Blackford Design stands as a timeless tapestry crafted by visionary artist Stephanie Blackford. Since its establishment in 1988, it has been a sanctuary for Stephanie's exquisite wearable art creations. Graduating from Dalhousie University's Costume Design Program in 1987, Stephanie dedicated herself fully to her craft. Her creations have graced festivals, markets, and events across Canada, including the prestigious Filberg Festival. A highlight of her career was showcasing a Tree Spirit Coat at the Vancouver Airport, a testament to her artistic talent. Stephanie's home studio in Qualicum Beach is where she brings her wearable art to life.
Stephanie also uses the laminated felting technique referred to as Nuno felting to render her artworks onto her clothing creations. This is an intense process that always for creative, colourful spontaneity. Currently it is Stephanie's way of painting on fabric, utilizing Corriedale wool. The textiles she uses include bamboo, cotton, hemp, wool and linen.
