Batik Baskets

BIO

I have lived, worked and raised my family on Vancouver Island for 40 years. I have always created with some form of fibre arts. Although "Roping" has been my primary focus for15 years, sewing, felting and quilting allow me to make use of different techniques with a variation of fibers. I love to explore colour combinations and finishing techniques to give each piece a creative variation. I have enjoyed teaching my craft to numerous groups.

CRAFT

I create bowls and market baskets using batik fabrics and Canadian made, braided cotton rope from the RopeShop. I slice batiks into strips and then wrap them around rope. The minimal fray of the batik provides a handcrafted rather than a manufactured look. I zigzag sew the rope together on my domestic machine. The angle I tilt the oval or round base as I sew, creates a unique piece. Finishing details individualize each piece.
