Mimi Matamoros

BIO

Mimi is a 22-year-old emerging singer-songwriter based in Toronto. Her ethereal and intricate melodies dance with her poetic, yet honest lyrics creating a unique sound reminiscent of 70's folk artists. Mimi takes inspiration from artists such as Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush, Valerie June, Fiona Apple, and Weyes Blood. Mimi was born into a family of artists and grew up performing at any chance she got. At 15, she began writing her own music and at 17 joined a band for her last year of high school, as the lead singer. Mimi spent a year in Sweden, participating in the International Youth Initiative Program (YIP), before going to McGill University for two years in Montreal, QC. At McGill, she was enrolled in Religious Studies and Musical Applications of Technology (MAT). While in Montreal, Mimi self-recorded and produced an EP of her original songs titled “In Winter…” In the fall of 2023, she moved back to Toronto to pursue her music career and to attend Seneca College's Independent Songwriting and Performance Program (IPS). Over the past year, Mimi has been playing shows in both Toronto and Montreal and even organized a house concert with her sister which had over 80 attendees. She is currently working on recording some of her newer songs and hopes to release them this spring.
