Shoko originally started Swallow Jewellery in 2013 with simple wire wrapped gemstone jewellery. Since then, she learned to silversmith and use a material called precious metal clay. The beautiful natural environment on Vancouver Island, travel, hikes and beachcombing inspire her to create jewellery that are imprints of nature items as well as vintage objects. In 2017, her partner Nicky decided to leave her job as a city bus driver, so Shoko asked her to join the brand. They thought it might be a temporary summer arrangement but Nicky never left. Now they work together on design, creation and every aspect of running Swallow Jewellery out of their little home studio in Victoria.
Swallow Jewellery is based out of Victoria BC. We make jewellery pieces that are inspired by nature objects and vintage items. Some of the example pieces we make are whale bone ring (Metchosin), honeycomb necklace (Qualicum Falls), blackberry earrings (Galloping Goose Trail in Victoria), hummingbird feather necklace (Gabriola Island) and we have so many more unique pieces. We also have a huge appreciation for vintage items so we make vintage lace and button imprinted jewellery. All pieces are made out of fine and sterling silver and each step, including kiln firing, is done in our little home studio. We also make custom jewellery with palm prints (or pawprints for four-legged family members) which are transferred from silicone molds to silver. We love being involved in the process of making special pieces whether it's with a brand-new baby or with a person who is passing. Every experience is very different and memorable for us.
