Nyx is a multidisciplinary artist in the fields of ceramics and painting whose work reflects her reverence for the natural world. Her wheel-thrown artisanal ceramic pieces are carefully handcrafted, each one unique in its expression of the natural materials alchemized in its creation. Seeking to highlight within her watercolour paintings moments of quiet beauty found in nature, Nyx’s work as a whole is intended to evoke a gentle sense of peace in the present moment.
I make a variety of wheel-thrown functional ceramics (vases, mugs, bowls, etc.) from Canadian-made/island-sourced stoneware clays. I pair graceful shapes with a cohesive colour palette of soft earth tones; they are mindfully crafted with the intention to be functional art pieces. I create my traditional watercolour paintings using many layers of pigment to build up detail and colour depth. I offer the originals as well as locally-printed giclée fine art reproductions on cotton paper.
