Andre has been woodturning and creating wooden products for over thirty five years. He was inspired at a young age by his great uncle and father who were saw filers and wood craftsmen. He is intrigued by the beauty found in some of our Vancouver Island Trees and the endless products that can be created. Most of his pieces are made from salvaged wood by home owners and people working in the forest industry.
As a wood craftsman I often start with an entire log or large slabs or burls from trees. The wood is air dried in my shop for many years before creating wooden pieces. The wood pieces are often shaped or cut to size on my bandsaw before turning them on my woodlathe or shaping them with grinding devices, routers and sanding machines. Pieces go through many stages of sanding before applying the finish.
