Born in Dorset, U.K., Donna first became interested in art at school. She studied at the Art Institute in Bournemouth. In 2014, Donna moved to B.C. after purchasing a sailboat on Granville Island. Following this move, she was able to dedicate more time to feed her painting appetite. Donna has studied with Simon Warne and Terrill Welch, and has taken encaustic and abstract workshops. Donna works from her studio, “The Villa,” at the water’s edge on Mayne Island.
My work is very much influenced by the places I’ve lived or visited. I regularly sail around these magical islands, always accompanied by my art supplies. My shoreline studio is surrounded by the comings and goings of wildlife, which also find their way into my paintings. Most of my work is mixed media, using different substrates and techniques. In some pieces, I incorporate abstract with realism, as I find the contrast interesting and more exciting.
